Prometheus created mankind from the rich clay of the earth. He supported the advancement of civilization and technology, including the introduction of fire to mortal men. Zeus was angry with Prometheus for stealing fire from the gods, thus sentencing him to eternal punishment. Bound to a rock, Prometheus was feasted on by an Eagle who would peck out his liver over and over, indefinitely.
