Bittersweet Blooms
Inspired by the tragic love story of Adonis and Aphrodite

Adonis was known for being the epitome of male beauty. For this reason, he attracted the attention of two Greek goddesses: Persephone and Aphrodite. This started a dispute between the goddesses over who would be allowed to pursue him. In an effort to settle their qualms, Zeus mandated that Adonis' time would be split between them both. Adonis much preferred Aphrodite and spent most of his time with her.
Unfortunately, a sudden hunting accident left Adonis in poor condition. He died in Aphrodite's arms. As her tears mixed with his blood, beautiful anemones (windflowers) bloomed.
This phenomenon - a tragic ending marked by the blooming of something beautiful - is not foreign in Greek mythology. Similar trends can be seen in the birth of the goddess Aphrodite herself, the creation of the saffron flower following the death of Crocus (Hermes' lover), and many other tales.
Featured in this soap is the swirling mixture of Adonis' blood with Aphrodite's magical, blue and gold tears.
